Contributing to our understanding of marine mammals through response and science for over 25 years.

The Long Marine Lab Stranding Network in collaboration with the Seymour Marine Discovery Center, will soon be developing pre and post-visit activity modules based on California science curiculum standards for educators that will be visiting the Seymour Center with their classes.  Grade level-specfic activity modules will be designed to augment student visits to the Seymour Center through incorporation of information about the role of marine mammals in ecosystems and in particular highlight the data that researchers can gather from stranded marine mammals.

Information will focus on:

  • How data is gathered from stranded marine mammals
  • How data from marine mammal strandings informs research about ocean heath and marine mammal populations
  • How can marine mammal stranding data help conserve marine mammal populations
